In an interview with Cartoon Base, The Simpsons’ showrunner Matt Selman told the media outlet that there’s no way the series will recast any of the main voice actors. Asked the question as time passes and the voice actors age, what will happen - will the likes of Hank Azaria and Nancy Cartwright be replaced and recast? Selman told the outlet that he isn’t thinking about replacing them with younger voice actors who can voice match the iconic characters. So what does that mean when one of the cast members unfortunately passes away? The Simpsons series has a storied history of either sun setting a character after an actor’s death, but in the case of its main cast, we’ve yet to see what sort of contingencies the showrunners have planned. Obviously that wouldn’t be something top-of-mind for the show execs, as it's better to just live in the moment and keep creating good shows while everyone is still willing and able. Because a Simpsons episode without Bart or Homer on #TheSimpsons isn’t something I think any of us really want to think about - also, I doubt that’ll happen. The showrunners, if the show is still on-air, will likely recast those roles.
